If you have been following this saga – then you will know the next stage to this little project, after gutting the Dell T105,  is to buy a desktop motherboard.  Unfortunately there isn’t too much information on what motherboard’s support the Opteron 1352 (I could only find this).  However as the Opteron uses the AM2+ slot, I’m going to take a punt on a AM2+ SLI motherboard.

Part 5
Conclusion

The motherboard I took a punt on ebay was a MSI K9N SLI -F V2 Socket AM2 motherboard, with a bios update this will support the Phenom (so hopefully the Opteron too).  It was an absolute bargain at £26.95 including P&P.

Next steps: lets get some ram and a power supply, then I want to get this motherboard posting with the Opteron 1352.  I’ll keep you posted.

Total expenditure to date: £176.95
